Why You Need to Try Brooklyn Oktoberfest

Nothing says fall quite like a cold pint of Brooklyn Oktoberfest. This famous beer was introduced in 2000 and has been a staple in New York City ever since. True to the original German style, this full-bodied, malty brew boasts a bready aroma and light, brisk hop bitterness. It pairs perfectly with apple cider donuts and changing leaves, and it’s only available from August to October! Read on to find out how you can get your hands on this iconic brew.

How to Enjoy Brooklyn Oktoberfest

Taste the Beer

When Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria wanted to celebrate his wedding engagement in 1810, he did what any good Bavarian prince would do. He threw a beer festival! Both the festival and the special beer served there became known as Oktoberfest. Brewed from the finest German malt and hops, Brooklyn Oktoberfest pays homage to this historic event.

Oktoberfest has a medium amber color with an average frothy off white head. The aroma is malty with notes of caramel, which leads to later stages of hops and a bitter finish. Pour yourself a tall one and enjoy it with sausage, chicken, pizza, pretzels, or cheese. Yum!

Visit the Brewery

Did you know that the Brooklyn Brewery is one of the largest craft breweries in the United States? It was established by Steve Hindy and Tom Potter in 1996. Today, the staff pushes the boundaries of brewing with an expanded barrel-aging program and an extensive roster of experimental batches. Beer lovers everywhere are invited to the brewhouse to sample Oktoberfest and other delicious flavors.

For an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the beer making process, we recommend signing up for a Brooklyn Brewery tour. You’ll enjoy a guided tasting of four beers, an in-depth history lesson, and a souvenir tasting glass to take home with you. Tours are available Monday through Thursday by reservation.
