1. Attend a Concert

Who doesn’t love live music? If you’re visiting Brooklyn this summer, head to the Prospect Park Bandshell. The Bandshell hosts a wide range of open-air entertainment including rock, jazz, and classical concerts. It’s managed by the Prospect Park Alliance and has an awesome sound system.

The bandshell also hosts the annual Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, the longest-running outdoor performing arts festival in New York. It was launched in 1979 to bring people back into Prospect Park after years of neglect and quickly became one of the city’s most beloved summer attractions. To date, the festival has presented over 2,000 artists and attracts upwards of 250,000 attendees each summer.

2. Visit the Zoo

Situated on the eastern side of the park, Prospect Park Zoo has been saving wildlife since 1980. Here, guests will encounter a wide range of species including barn animals, amphibians, birds, and sea lions. There’s also three themed exhibits and daily educational programs geared towards inspiring the public. It’s a great place to meet animals and learn the importance of conservation!

3. Ride the Carousel

Are you traveling with kids? Bring them to the Prospect Park Carousel! This historic merry-go-round was built in 1912 and resided at Coney Island until 1952. If a horse doesn’t strike your fancy, go for a spin on one of the carousel’s more exotic animals like a lion, giraffe or buck. Rides are just $2 and are available Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

4. Dine at a Food Truck

Food trucks are a staple here in Brooklyn. Somehow everything tastes better when it’s served from one of those little windows! To sample cuisines from around the world at some of the city’s best food trucks, plan a trip to the Prospect Park Food Truck Rally. It’s held at Grand Army Plaza and takes place once a month from June to October. Different vendors and menus are available each weekend, so there’s always something new to try.

5. Explore the Lefrak Center

The Samuel J. and Ethel LeFrak Center at Lakeside is a beloved activity center in Prospect Park. It offers a wide range of year-round seasonal activities, from ice skating in the winter to cooling off in the summer Splash Pad. Don’t forget to stop by the Bluestone Lakeside Cafe for a delicious meal and panoramic views of Prospect Park Lake!
