Top 8 Things to Do This Summer in Brooklyn
1. Dine at Smorgasburg
If you want to try some of the most delicious eats in New York City, look no further than Smorgasburg. This bustling open-air market is held every Saturday from April through October and attracts over 10,000 hungry foodies. Local and regional vendors set up in Williamsburg and Prospect Park, offering packaged and prepared foods, beverages, groceries, and more.
2. Browse the Brooklyn Flea
The award-winning Brooklyn Flea showcases top vendors of furniture, vintage clothing, and antiques as well as a tightly curated selection of jewelry and art by local designers. It’s been named one of the best markets in the world and is held every Saturday in Williamsburg and every Sunday in DUMBO.
3. Have Lunch at Pig Beach
There’s nothing better than a cold brew and BBQ in the summer. From sweet baby back ribs to smoked pork shoulder, Pig Beach on Union Street delivers. In addition to heaping trays of pit-smoked BBQ, this eatery boasts nearly two dozen shareable picnic tables and an outdoor bar. It’s the perfect place to unwind on a warm afternoon.
4. Have Cocktails at Brooklyn Crab
When it’s time for Happy Hour, head over to Brooklyn Crab for cocktails and some light bites. This tri-level seafood shack is known for their crab buckets, specialty drinks, and spectacular water views. Not sure what to order? We recommend a dozen raw oysters and the spicy Maalstroom Margarita made with habanero infused tequila, ruby red grapefruit, and orange liqueur.
5. Explore Brooklyn’s Chinatown
Sunset Park in Brooklyn is one of the largest and fastest-growing Chinese enclaves outside of Asia. Though not as densely packed as Manhattan’s Chinatown, Sunset Park commands a strong local following for its noodle shops, bakeries, and dim sum palaces. (And the prices are lower, which is always a plus). Feel free to stroll down Eighth Avenue and pop into a variety of restaurants and businesses during your summer vacation.
6. Cool Off with Ice Cream at Ample Hills Creamery
Just half a mile from our inn is the best ice cream shop in Brooklyn – Ample Hills Creamery. Here, ice cream is made the old-fashioned way: by hand, using ingredients like hormone-free milk and organic cane sugar. Visitors of all ages love Ample Hill’s whimsical flavors like Salted Crack Caramel, Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, The Munchies and Snap Mallow Pop.
7. Enjoy the Views from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade
Running between the Brooklyn Bridge and Atlantic Avenue, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade is one of the most popular destinations for sightseeing in the city. Strolling the 1,826-foot tree-lined walkway, guests can experience expansive views of Staten Island, the Statue of Liberty, the Freedom Tower, Ellis Island, and many other landmarks. Just don’t forget to bring your camera!
8. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge
No trip to Brooklyn is complete without a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. It’s about a mile in length is accessible from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. The views from the bridge are beautiful at any time of day, but sunset is particularly nice. You’ll be able to see Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Statue of Liberty while it’s still light out and then watch as the city comes to life with electric wonder.
Local Tip: The path on the right side of the bridge is for pedestrians, and the one on the left is for bicycles. The bicyclists drive fast and often don’t stop, so be careful!
