Are you a self-proclaimed foodie? Do you love talking about food, photographing food, and, most of all, eating food? If so, a trip to the Williamsburg Smorgasburg should be in your plans! This bustling open-air market showcases some of the most delicious eats in Brooklyn, New York. It’s held every Saturday from April through October and attracts over 10,000 New Yorkers and visitors! Lovingly dubbed “The Woodstock of Eating” by The New York Times, Smorgasburg is the perfect place to satisfy your cravings. Here are some of the things you’ll see there.
Spend a Day at the Williamsburg Smorgasburg
Taste your way through the ‘Burg! Over 100 local and regional food vendors set up in Williamsburg each summer, offering packaged and prepared foods, beverages, groceries, and more. Pick up classic carne asada from Best Bud Burritos, or enjoy Shanghai-inspired street food from Jianbing Company. If you’re not sure what to try first, we recommend the famous Ramen Burger. This juicy beef patty is one of the most famous items at Smorgasburg and features two buns made of (you guessed it) Ramen noodles.
Even those with dietary restrictions can nosh comfortably. Vendors like The Regal Vegan and NÜ Burger offer plenty of organic, gluten-free, and meatless options. And you don’t need to skimp on dessert! Simply head to Alchemy Creamery for a heaping cup of ice cream that just happens to be dairy-free, gluten-free, and certified kosher. Y-u-m.
Hours & Locations
Guests have double the chance of finding their new favorite cuisine at Smorgasburg’s two locations. The Williamsburg Smorgasburg is located in East River State Park and is open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Prospect Park Smorgasburg can be found on Breeze Hill on Sundays, also from 11 to 6. Both locations are just minutes from our inn and feature awesome views of Manhattan. Don’t forget to bring your camera!
Top Tips For Taking On the ‘Burg
- Plan ahead and arrive early. Smorgasburg tends to get more crowded as the day goes on, so do your best to beat the rush. Fewer people means shorter lines, which ultimately means more food for you!
- Bring cash. A majority of the vendors only accept cash so head to the ATM beforehand.
- Buy a drink when you first arrive. Sunny summer days are perfect for Smorgasburg, but they can also be super hot. Stay hydrated by buying water, iced tea, or a smoothie from one of the stands.
- Do your research. Know what Smorgasburg has to offer before you get there so you don’t miss the vendors you wanted to try. Or you can use it as an excuse to go back next weekend. Your call!
