History of Puppetworks, Inc.

Puppetworks founder Nicolas Coppola has been a professional kid crowd-pleaser for decades. Born in Brooklyn, he was inspired to create his first cloth marionette after seeing a performance by Suzari Marionettes in the third grade. In 1954, when he was only 19 years old, Nicolas auditioned to become a professional puppeteer with the same troupe. He was selected and eventually became the Artistic Director. (It was renamed Nicolo Marionettes when he took the helm). Nicolas started Puppetworks, Inc. in 1980 as a nonprofit organization that eventually replaced the touring company.

Puppetworks Provides Joy for All Ages

Since its inception, Nicolas Coppola’s Puppetworks has been producing professional marionette shows that captivate children and parents alike. Macy’s even built a stage specifically for the company at its Herald Square location! The troupe still performs its well-known holiday shows there to this day.
