1. Prospect Park
Prospect Park is a stunning 585-acre oasis that’s perfect for relaxation and recreation. It attracts over one million visitors each year and features a zoo, playgrounds, ball fields, an Audubon center, and a bandshell for outdoor concerts. Visitors can sit back and admire over 250 species of birds, or go kayaking on the expansive lake. You can even set up a picnic or BBQ on the park’s lush green grounds. 2. Brooklyn Bridge Park
Located along the East River, Brooklyn Bridge Park spans 85 acres in the Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO neighborhoods. This world-class waterfront park has beautiful rolling hills and offers riverfront promenades with spectacular city views. Attractions include the sweeping Empire Fulton Ferry Lawn, the Picnic Grove, and the Max Family Garden. The park also features a vintage carousel that’s open for rides year-round. Parking is very limited, so we recommend taking public transportation to the park.
3. Fort Greene Park
Looking for a taste of history? Visit Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn. Originally the site of forts built for the Revolutionary War, this 30-acre area was the first designated park in Brooklyn. It now features a basketball court, playgrounds, tennis courts, and more. Be sure to check out the Prison Ship Martyrs’ Monument, one of Fort Greene Park’s most notable features. This 149-foot granite column stands above a crypt that holds the ashes of 11,500 American war prisoners. It’s a breathtaking piece that you have to see for yourself!
4. Owl’s Head Park
Long walks by the water, fun summer picnics, and sledding in the winter are just a few of the activities available at Owl’s Head Park. This spacious property features basketball courts, playgrounds, a spray pool, and a popular skate park. There’s even a dog run where four-legged friends can romp around. Owl’s Head State Park offers breathtaking views of the New York City skyline as well as a striking panorama of the Verrazano Bridge. Don’t forget to bring your camera!
